MGC Clones — still the best value
How an EST clone becomes an MGC clone Step 1 — cDNA libraries are arrayed into expressed sequence tag (EST) cDNA plates. The clones are sequenced at the 5` end. Step 2 — If the EST contains a probable start codon, it is renamed "MGC Putative Full-Length," rearrayed and the complete insert is sequenced. Step 3 — If the full-insert is shown to include the complete coding sequence, it is rearrayed a second time and designated "MGC Verified Full-Length." The above work is performed by the I.M.A.G.E. Consortium (Integrated Molecular Analysis of Genomes and their Expression) and MGC (Mammalian Gene Collection). Step 4 — The MGC clones are shipped to ATCC for distribution. As part of the ATCC mission to provide biological materials to scientists worldwide, ATCC is an authorized distributor and provides clones directly, or through its authorized international distributors. Human MGC Verified Full-Length Clones from ATCC are provided as live cultures or frozen glycerol stocks. ATCC follows quality procedures that ensure that the clones picked from the ATCC plates match the identified plate in the well. However, due to errors associated with high-throughput clone management, the clone you receive may not always be a match to the expected clone. ATCC does not re-sequence MGC clones. Restriction digests to excise inserts may not always be reliable due to the failure to regenerate some cloning sites following cloning. Restriction enzyme results inferred from the data may not be correct. Please note the total size of the construct and internal cutting sites in evaluating restriction digests. Using new approaches to uncover elusive human genes, the MGC has added many new clones further enriching the ATCC collection. Search MGC clones by GenBank number or send us an e-mail. |
